Open Enrollment for the State Health Plan (SHP) is Oct. 1 through Oct. 31 as well as for NC Flex and the DHHS Supplemental Benefits Plans. The choices you make during October become effective Jan. 1, 2014 and will remain in effect through Dec. 31, 2014.
The SHP is offering the new Enhanced 80/20 Plan, the new Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP), and the Traditional 70/30 Plan. You are eligible for coverage in the SHP if you are employed in a permanent position working 30 hours or more each week (you may also participate in the SHP by paying the full cost for coverage, employee premium and employer share, if you work in a permanent part-time position working 20-29 hours). If you do not choose an option by Oct. 31, you and any enrolled dependents will be enrolled in the Traditional 70/30 Plan for 2014. For more information regarding these SHP Plan Options, please see web links below.
If you are participating in NC Flex Spending Accounts (Health Care Flexible Spending Account and/or Dependent Day Care Flexible Spending Account) you must enroll each year. If you are satisfied with your other NC Flex Benefits and do not want to make any changes, your benefits will continue as is and do not require annual enrollment. If you wish to enroll in any NC Flex Benefits, or add or remove dependents from your NC Flex Benefits, you may do so during the October Open Enrollment period. You are eligible to participate in the NC Flex Benefits if you work in a permanent position 20 or more hours per week. Please remember to sign up for the Core AD&D benefit, provided at no cost if elected, which provides $10,000 worth of coverage if you suffer a loss (this benefit does not require annual re-enrollment). For more information regarding the NC Flex Benefits, please see web link below.
You will also have the opportunity to enroll in the DHHS Supplemental Benefits in October: ARAG (Legal Services Product), Humana Dental, ING Reliastar (Term Life), Protective Life (Universal Life), and Colonial Life (Disability). In the coming weeks, you will receive an email communication and/or a hardcopy packet of information providing detailed information about these benefits.
If you have any questions and/or need additional information about the 2013 Open Enrollment process in October, please contact your local Division/Facility Human Resources Office.
