Teepa Snow, an educator in dementia and memory care, recently led the Dementia and Aging Conference at the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center, entertaining and enlightening varied therapists and other health care providers and family care givers from across Western North Carolina. About 400 local professionals and treatment center staff attended the conference.
Snow has more than 30 years of experience as a Registered Occupational Therapist and has developed techniques and training models to assist providers and families with understanding the challenges of behavioral symptoms that accompany the many forms of dementia. She guided the audience through techniques to use with individuals, and emphasized the value of humor in developing and maintaining healthy attitudes and behaviors in caregiving relationships.
“Time spent with Teepa leaves caregivers with a renewed spirit for the tough job of caregiving,” said Lauri Hollingsworth, Director of the Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center. “Her presentations are entertaining, yet have practical tips for managing individuals with dementia.”
The event was sponsored by the Black Mountain Center Foundation, Inc., and provides participants practical techniques, a greater understanding of dementia, and renewed motivation to focus on enhancing the quality of life for individuals.
