North Carolina Disability Determination Services staff members spent part of this past summer collecting items to send to help active duty military, veterans and military working dogs. DDS staff worked with Military Missions in Actions (MMIA). MMIA is a group based in Fuquay-Varina which distributes collected items to our men, women, and service animals on the front lines. They also work with homeless and low income veterans by supplying personal items.
From July 22 to Aug. 9, the employees collected boxes of personal care items, entertainment items, and dog toys and treats.
“We were able to send several new DVDs to help lift the spirits of our military personnel while they are deployed to forward positions,” said Marcia Golden, an examiner from Unit 19. “We also collected personal care items which are not only sent overseas, but also used locally to help veterans in the area. The military working dogs were not forgotten, as we have lots of dog treats and toys donated. Those were shipped out the same week to the animals on the front lines.”
NC DDS employees are always willing to support and help when given the opportunity. See www.militarymissionsinaction.org for more information on how you can help too.
