RALEIGH — A particularly deadly flu season for young and middle-aged adults has apparently ended, with no new deaths reported in the weekly update figures released Thursday afternoon by the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services.

RALEIGH — Two more people died from the flu in North Carolina last week, bringing the death toll from the viral-illness this season to an even 100.

Someone has died from flu-related illness in the state every week but one since late November, according to the state Department of Health and Human Services. The peak number was 12 during a week in late January.

Two-thirds of those who died this year were between the ages of 25 and 64. Young and middle-age adults are more vulnerable to the H1N1 strain that was the dominant form this season, health officials say.

Last year, 59 people died from flu-related illnesses in North Carolina, according to the state. The last deaths occurred in May.
